Persian Rhythmic Patterns with Hooman Tootoonchian

Hooman Tootoonchian will introduce us to ancient Persian rhythmic patterns. He’ll discuss the history, structure, and uses of these rhythms to give everyone a deeper understanding of their cultural context. Bring your own drums or use the ones he'll have on hand. We’ll play some pieces that complement the percussion program. In addition, there will be a selection of pieces from traditional Persian music, Renaissance music, and various folk traditions from around the world. These pieces will feature complex and irregular rhythms for participants to identify, analyze, and play along with.

About Hooman Tootoonchian

Hooman's musical journey began with the piano, and he soon discovered a passion for teaching. Embracing the Orff method, he joyfully shared music with children. Co-founding Rhythmitica, an online music academy, Hooman envisions using music as a bridge to unite cultures and create a harmonious world. With a diverse academic background and a love for Persian, baroque, and early music, he continuously enriches his expertise, leaving a profound impact on aspiring musicians and learners globally.
